Marking, handling and transportation of products by GRP pipes manufacturers

grp-1

Companies manufacturing GRP pipes and FRP pipes perform several tests to ensure quality of their products. GRP pipes manufacturers conduct a list of tests to extract the best quality piping for market users. How do they perform handling, marking, and transportation of these products once testing is done? In this post, we will discuss about these operations that manufacturers perform after testing the lots of pipes and products.

Marking:

Both the ends of pipe length and fitting should be marked with letters not less than 12mm in height and bold font should be used in a color and type that remains legible under installation process and normal handling. There are certain things that marking should include-

  • Internal diameter
  • Pipe class
  • Manufacture date
  • Name of the manufacturer or his registered trademark or both
  • Nominal thickness

It is important for manufacturer to achieve ISI marking on their piping and fittings.

Handling:

Suppliers and manufacturing units are also responsible for safe delivery of piping and fittings as per order place according to the schedule. If the piping and fittings are outsourced to the contractor, supplier should provide him a complete manual of instruction or guide for handling of pipe prior installation.

Fire safety:

GRP pipes are manufactured with a resin and petrochemicals, which are inflammable. So, supplier, manufacturer, contractor or any of them should take utmost precaution while handling, storing, transporting, unloading/loading, installing, testing, etc. in all phases, against fire. It is their duty to take proper care and avoid exposure of pipe to welder’s spark, cutting-torch flames, or other heat or electrical sources that could promote fire in pipe material.

Transportation:

Suppliers should provide flat timber support to all pipe sections on a maximum of 4m centers with a maximum overhead of 2m in trucks. They should check that no pipe should come in contact with other pipes during transportation.

Storing:

Pipes should be stored on ground or on flat timbers. It is must for manufacturers to choke all pipes to prevent rolling.

Lubricant of gasket should be carefully stored to avoid any damage to the container.

This is it. This is how GRP pipes manufacturers handle, transport, mark, and store their products. If you want to know more about GRP products and piping solutions, connect to manufacturers and suppliers today. Share your reviews in comments with us and tell the readers how you find this article.
